Belarus president wants proposals to enhance anti-bribery enforcement

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - It is essential to determine measures and prepare proposals to toughen responsibility for corruption crimes, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with Minsk authorities on 20 December, BelTA informs.

“It is essential to toughen responsibility for corruption crimes. Work out proposals. We will strengthen responsibility for corruption offences,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state said that facts of corruption should not remain unnoticed, and the culprits will be brought to justice sooner or later.

Alexander Lukashenko said that he has been fighting against corruption for many years. He even led a corresponding commission in the parliament and had access to information of a few cases who some people tried to conceal.

He stressed that when he is informed about facts of corruption involving high-ranking civil servants he always demands iron proof or even wants such people to be caught red-handed. “I am always informed before certain decisions are made. This way I am trying to protect innocent civil servants. Everything can happen. An honest and kind person who loves his or her country can be framed up. Therefore, I demand reports in all fields, including on serious violations,” the Belarusian leader said.
