MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Eastern Europe can become a transboundary belt of stability and cooperation. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko put forward the idea as a meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference opened in Minsk on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus lies at a geographical crossroads of Europe, for all intents and purposes, squeezed in between geopolitical giants. “We don't want to land on a new civilizational fissure line, at the spearhead of political standoff between the East and the West. Belarusians know very well what may come out of it. As tensions grow higher, Belarus is promised the destiny of a buffer, a ‘bastion' between Russia and NATO. Both experts and politicians talk about it,” stated Alexander Lukashenko.
“On the one hand, it is bad. On the other hand, if powers that be agreed not to push Eastern Europe countries into various military and political blocs, not to demand their loyalty to the detriment of sovereign interests, this region could become a transboundary belt of stability and cooperation,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
