Belarus president receives set of Christmas baubles from journalists

MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko received a set of exclusive Christmas tree decorations as he talked to the media on 29 December, BelTA has learned.

The idea to make a present for the president was born literally a couple of weeks ago. The gift was meant to be something meaningful and heart-warming, something associated with the New Year and Christmas.

The journalists chose the design themselves. The hand-painted Christmas glass baubles feature landmarks from across Belarus – the ancient Polotsk, Mir and Nesvizh castles, the Palace of Independence, sports and religious sites, the Belovezhskaya Pushcha, and many other places. The designers did not forget Alexander Lukashenko's birthplace either. One of the baubles features the president's home in Shklov District and the Palesse harvester which Alexander Lukashenko tested during a working trip in the summer 2017.

The idea was turned into reality thanks to Belarusian craftsmen. A curious fact: none of them knew who was the recipient of the present. Despite the workload before the holidays, they agreed to take on the task and fulfilled it within a very short time.

“Thank you! I will put them on my Christmas tree today,” the head of state promised.

The journalists also inquired what present Alexander Lukashenko would like to get in 2018. He replied that he is asked about this quite often, sometimes by his own children. “I use to answer them that they cannot get what I want,” he said.

Alexander Lukashenko added that he always pays attention to what is happening around and to the people in the streets when he is driving across the city. “This is how I feel what the people feel. If a man is smiling, I know that he is in a good mood and the life is good. I want you to be smiling, too. The most important thing is that your parents, your current or future children should stay healthy and never upset you,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
