Belarus president gives directives to newly appointed municipal administrators

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – Municipal government agencies should focus on work with people and dealing with problems in the sphere of economic development, primarily troubled enterprises. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions to newly appointed heads of a number of district administrations on 26 December, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked all of those involved in the latest political events in the country, particularly elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. “I pay close attention to the matter because it indicates the effectiveness of the work of our government agencies and the power vertical as a whole. It is an indicator of our work, resilience and courage of the people involved in these elections,” the head of state said. “But I have said it many times already that we cannot relax. It was a rehearsal. The main act is ahead of us.”

“It will be a complicated and very difficult year. If we can get through it decently, it means we are capable of something. I don't want to say it will be an extraordinary test of our capabilities and skills. What circumstances will obtain in the future is anybody's guess. We are a young, sovereign, independent state, this is why we face many challenges today. Nobody can say what awaits us. This is why we should always be on guard and do our best. This is what I encourage you to do,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state asked the newly appointed municipal administrators to pay more attention to people's problems. He remarked that sometimes there are people, who ask the state to do something that lies far beyond the scope of government work. “But it is only natural. This is why you need to be patient, you have to listen to people's problems and work with them. We will be unable to accomplish anything in the future without people's support,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president stressed that the key threat – if there is any – may originate only from the sphere of economy. “And economy depends on us – executives and administrators. If we manage things effectively, the country will live. And we can resolve any problem in Belarus. This is why I urge you to direct attention to economic matters,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state pointed out that matters relating to agriculture and manufacturing sector top the list of priorities.

“Last year we recovered after several years of bad harvests. We accomplished something. It is good we didn't let agricultural output fall. I thank all the rural workers for it. Nevertheless, we cannot relax. You can see what kind of weather we are having. It will have a negative impact on winter crops. This is why we should be ready to fertilize the winter crops in time in order to get good harvest,” the head of state noted.

“This is why people, economy, and professionalism will be the top priorities in your work,” Aleksandr Lukashenko summed up.

The president also said that the final decision on the development of Vitebsk Oblast will be made soon. “We will meet in Vitebsk Oblast after the holidays. As I've promised, we will make the final decision on Vitebsk Oblast development. I am convinced the experience will be useful in all the oblasts. Pay close attention to it,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also underlined the importance of work with loss-making enterprises. “Taking care of interests of loss-making enterprises is part and parcel of the work of a district administrator. There are 2-3 enterprises like that per district. The head of the district executive committee and his or her deputies are personally responsible for their work.”

In conclusion the head of state wished every success to the newly appointed municipal administrators. He congratulated them on the New Year and asked to convey his best wishes to residents of their districts. He also noted he believes the job of a district administration head to be one of the most responsible and most interesting ones. “I don't see more interesting jobs in the country than the job of an enterprise manager and a district administrator,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
