Belarus president condemns hazing in army

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with cadets and professors of the Military Academy on 22 February and mentioned his attitude to hazing in the army among other things, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that there is no army without discipline. An army needs order but without taking things to the extreme. “You shouldn't be rude to your subordinates. Don't tolerate any hazing. When I get to hear about hazing in the Belarusian army, my blood boils.”

The head of state noted that cadets would be astonished if he told them how he had fought against hazing in his time. He would even go as far as brawls with old-time soldiers, who had been hazing young ones. But everything would end well as a result. “I secured an iron discipline in my company. We will not accomplish anything without discipline. But everything should be done in a manly manner and justice should lie at the heart of everything,” Alexander Lukashenko added.
