Belarus hailed as land of talented people

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Belarus is a country of talented people, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he delivered his Annual State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

“Our national culture is a trove of great spiritual wealth. This is our moral core. It helps preserve the identity,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

At a time when Belarus is facing attempts from outside to impose some averaged values that lead to lack of taste and lack of spirituality, it is very important to show this wealth, preserve the ideals, self-esteem, the president said. It means preserving the strength of the country, its independence. Belarus must do everything in order to preserve its cultural heritage, multiply it and use it to nurture new generations, the president noted.

“It is amazing how many talents Belarus has given to the world. Belarus is certainly a country of talented people. Conditions are in place in the country to discover and nurture creative potential. There are various support funds and programs. The state has invested a lot in the reconstruction of cultural sites,” the president said.

Speaking about the country's tourist potential, Aleksandr Lukashenko urged the Sport and Tourism Ministry to make maximum use of it. “Everyone knows the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, Brest Fortress, cathedrals and museums of Polotsk. But what about Lida and Kossovo castles, magnificent architecture of Pinsk and other places?” the president asked rhetorically. These objects must also become part of the tourist business, he stressed.
