Belarus, Egypt committed to strengthening international peace, stability

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Egypt are committed to strengthening international peace and stability, preventing the manifestations of terrorism and extremism which pose a serious threat to global and regional security. This is envisaged in a joint statement which was signed by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 18 June, BelTA informs.

The sides agreed it is necessary to regulate international conflicts using political and diplomatic methods, emphasized their commitment to the main objectives of the UN Charter and universal principles and norms of international law.

Belarus praised the achievements of the Egyptian government in stabilizing the political and economic situation in the country, in the fight against international terrorism and expressed hope that positive trends in the development of Egypt will help expand bilateral ties.

Belarus also supports the forthcoming signing of a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Egypt. The Egyptian side, in turn, pointed out the readiness to promote the development of large-scale cooperation between Belarus and African countries. The Egyptian government also promised to support joint projects which are implemented in this Arab republic by creating equal conditions for the participation in national tenders, facilitating the registration of joint ventures.

The sides agreed to expand cooperation in such industries as information and communication technologies, space and aviation technologies, nanomaterials, molecular genetics, metal technology, pharmaceutics, optics. It is also planned to step up cooperation in education, In particular, it is essential to raise the inflow of Egyptian students to Belarus, create joint university departments, send Belarusian students to learn the Arabic language at Egyptian universities.

Belarus and Egypt will continue cooperation in tourism and culture. An agreement was made to hold the Days of Egyptian Culture in Belarus in 2019.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi thanked Aleksandr Lukashenko and the Belarusian people for hospitality and invited the Belarusian head of state to visit Egypt.
