Army checkup in progress upon Belarus president's instructions

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Following the relevant instruction given by the Belarus president, the State Secretariat of the Security Council is conducting a checkup of the Belarusian army, representatives of the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus told BelTA.

It is a comprehensive test designed to cover the most important matters of combat readiness and routine operation of the Belarusian army. State Secretary of the Security Council Stanislav Zas relayed the Belarus president's instruction to carry out practical measures of the checkup to Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov on 12 March.

Various army troops and commands will be examined in the course of the checkup, including intelligence service, missile and artillery units, mechanized units, air defense missile forces, and aviation. Live fire exercises will be arranged.

The system used to mobilize the troops will be checked, including the ability to form an independent mechanized brigade and the brigade's ability to carry out missions on its own. Up to 2,000 reservists will be drafted for the checkup.

Close attention will be paid to evaluating the capability of the Air Force and Air Defense Command to protect administrative units and industrial areas and prevent acts of terrorism in the air. Military discipline will be examined as well as the state of weapons and materiel in regular army units and storage facilities.
