Andrei Khmel appointed Belarus' utilities minister

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Andrei Khmel was appointed Belarus' utilities minister. Previously he worked as deputy minister of natural resources and environmental protection. A corresponding appointment was made by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 4 June, BelTA informs.

According to the head of state, many people suggested closing the Utilities Ministry. “I think we cannot do it, because the population asks many questions about these services. But the utilities sector cannot remain in this condition,” he stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that a government conference on the organization of work in the utilities sector is in the pipeline. “The utilities sector needs a leader. A chairperson of a district executive committee, a head of a town administration should be such leaders. They should monitor repairs and other works. Do not get carried away with some market mechanisms here. We are fed up with them already,” the president said.

“We will dot all the i's in the utilities sector in Polotsk next week,” the head of state concluded.
