Aleksandr Rumak appointed Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs of Belarus

MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has appointed Aleksandr Rumak Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Until now, Aleksandr Rumak worked as deputy labor and social security minister.

When talking to journalists, Aleksandr Rumak noted that the new line of work is also about social affairs and that inter-ethnic and interfaith peace and harmony are the core of state policy. In today's world, it is the divisions on this ground that often cause civil and external wars. “Therefore, we need to appreciate what we have in the Belarusian society today. Everyone, regardless of religion, nationality, should cherish the things we have today,” Aleksandr Rumak noted.

He also noted that in any society there are many people who need social support, and it is not only the responsibility of state organizations. “As international experience shows, religious organizations participate in both charity and social campaigns to support people who need it. I would also like the religious denominations to play a bigger role in upholding traditional family values,” Aleksandr Rumak noted.
