Yermoshina advises Belarusians to come to polls in the morning or afternoon

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – It is better to come to polling places in the morning or in the afternoon, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

Lidia Yermoshina asked those who have not cast their ballots yet “not to take too long with going to a polling station”. “I am aware of the calls to come in the evening and paralyze the work of precinct election commissions,” the CEC chief said.

In her words, it is better to vote in the morning in a calm atmosphere or in the afternoon. “At the same time, voters might not be able to get into polling places in the evening, because politicized crowds seeking to disrupt the election, might stand in their way,” the CEC chief noted.

Lidia Yermoshina added that “voters cannot be polled by anyone before entering a polling place”. Polls are held only upon the exit from a polling station. “This can be done by people having special IDs. There are two organizations that can do it. One of them signed an agreement with the MIR broadcaster, the other one with the STV TV channel. They have documents confirming their right to conduct surveys. The rest are not entitled to that,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
