U.S. analyst: USA is showing bigger interest in Belarus

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – The interest of the USA in Belarus is growing, Dr. Thomas Graham, a managing director at the Kissinger Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm, told the ONT TV channel on 2 February, BelTA has learned.

Commenting on the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Belarus, the expert recalled that earlier Belarus had welcomed President Donald Trump's then-National Security Advisor John Bolton.

“This demonstrates an increasing interest in Belarus and determination to build our relations. Therefore, I believe that our countries will maintain more regular and meaningful contacts in the future. I think our relations have a bright future ahead,” Thomas Graham said.

According to him, the main thing now is how to deepen bilateral relations. “We have recently agreed to restore full reciprocal diplomatic missions and reinstate ambassadors. This is a step forward,” he emphasized. In addition to that, there is an economic interest in restoring contacts.

Thomas Graham noted that Belarus and the USA used to have strained relations, there were no meaningful contacts, however, the situation has changed. “Belarus is trying to preserve its independence and we would like to show that we support such a policy,” he said.
