Understanding between Belarus, Russia on integration agenda

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have been able to find understanding on most of the items on the integration agenda in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas made the statement as he met with Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rumas said: “Our colleagues have had a number of productive meetings in this period [since the meeting of the prime ministers on 24 May]. On Saturday, 15 June our two negotiation teams spent an entire day discussing various matters. Most of them resulted in an understanding of both sides. There are still some things we should discuss today.”

Dmitry Medvedev confirmed that some work to reconcile views had been done since the previous meeting of the heads of government. “It is difficult to estimate it as a percentage, but there is no doubt that the views are being reconciled. Today we should take a look at all the lingering issues and make decisions where possible and postpone some matters for other consultations,” he added.

Sergei Rumas mentioned the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. “The Russian delegation is represented by a very good team of athletes. Everyone says the team is definitely a medal favorite. I wish success to the Russian team,” the prime minister noted.

In turn, Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the Belarusian side on the launch of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. “I hope that not only the opening ceremony but all the competitions will bring genuine joy to athletes and to a huge number of fans,” he said.
