MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Parliament Volkan Bozkir will be on an official visit to Belarus on 9-12 September, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters following his talks with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu on 28 August, BelTA has learned.
“We are promoting constructive political cooperation and maintaining regular contacts at the level of the presidents, parliaments and governments,” Vladimir Makei said. Economic cooperation is the pillar of bilateral relations. “The head of state emphasized it as he met with the Turkish foreign minister today,” Vladimir Makei said.
Last year bilateral trade approached $1 billion. Unfortunately, it lost momentum in the first half of 2019. “Therefore, our today's talks were focused on the tasks set by the heads of state, in particular, efforts to expand trade, reduce the trade imbalance, boost investment and launch new joint economic projects. We have arrived at the conclusion that we need to take advantage of untapped opportunities to scale up cooperation in various sectors,” Vladimir Makei said.
In his words, a broad array of events will be held to expand bilateral cooperation.
