Tokyo to appoint ambassador to Belarus this summer

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Tokyo will deploy the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Minsk in the summer, Charge d'Affaires of Japan to Belarus Hiroki Tokunaga said at a press conference in Minsk on 8 February, BelTA has learned.

“I am a temporary envoy in Belarus. Moscow-based Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia has concurrent accreditation in Belarus,” the diplomat explained. “However, Tokyo will appoint the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Minsk this year. With the new status the embassy will step up its activities."

Japan is interested in expanding cooperation with Belarus, Hiroki Tokunaga added.
