MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - A regular round of talks to secure peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine is underway in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Trilateral Contact Group is set to meet later on the day. The previous meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group took place on 16 January.

Following the previous meeting Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), Ambassador Heidi Grau called on the sides to strengthen demining activities. In 2019, the figures of civilian casualties decreased significantly reaching the lowest level since the beginning of the conflict. In January 2020, compared to late 2019, the number of ceasefire violations sizably dropped. Last year not a single child fatality was reported. Mines remain the main cause of casualties among civilians, Heidi Grau added.
