Talks on Donbass underway in Minsk

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - A meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group to discuss ways to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine is underway in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks by the Trilateral Contact Group were preceded by the meeting of the working subgroups.

Following the previous meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on 30 January, OSCE's special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik emphasized full commitment to the Minsk Agreements as the only way to secure peaceful resolution of the conflict in the east of Ukraine. It was also noted that in 2018 the number of civilian casualties significantly decreased, reaching the lowest level since the beginning of the conflict. According to preliminary estimates of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, no civilian deaths were reported from the beginning of 2019 till 28 January. According to Martin Sajdik, it proves that the work of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk bears fruit.
