Tajikistan suggests compiling CIS list of terrorist organizations

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon put forward a proposal to compile the CIS list of terrorist and extremist organizations banned in the territory of the CIS member states at the online meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State on 18 December, BelTA has learned.

The leader of Tajikistan noted that he is alarmed by mounting global threats and security challenges. He noted that the CIS countries cooperate on security matters in line with a number of agreements and jointly fight against many threats. “At the same time, today's situation requires even closer coordination of efforts of security forces and special services of our countries in order to prevent and suppress security threats,” Emomali Rahmon said. In this regard, he suggested that the CIS leaders consider creating a single list of terrorist and extremist organizations banned in the territory of the CIS countries.

Emomali Rahmon also emphasized the importance of adopting the CIS development concept. “The global community is experiencing serious economic and social shocks against the backdrop of the pandemic,” he said. “The global economy has entered a phase of deep social, economic and financial crisis. Many countries of the world are facing food security issues and the worst humanitarian crisis in 75 years. This prompts the CIS to take more effective measures to respond to the humanitarian and socio-economic consequences of the pandemic,” he said. In this regard, the development of trade and economy is of particular importance.
