Tajikistan ambassador welcomes good political relations with Belarus

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Good political relations have become a foundation for cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Belarus Mahmadsharif Mahmoud Hakdod said at a session of the Dialogue with an Ambassador club in the House of Friendship on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat emphasized that contemporary history of bilateral relations is about a quarter of a century old. However, the two countries maintained close contacts also in the Soviet period. The ambassador noted that during the Great Patriotic War the people of Belarus and Tajikistan fought shoulder to shoulder for the Victory which 75th anniversary will be marked this year.

At present Belarus and Tajikistan cooperate in the bilateral and multilateral formats across many areas of common interest. Mahmadsharif Mahmoud Hakdod welcomed an excellent political dialogue between the two states.

In his words, the history of bilateral relations is as long as the post-Soviet history of the two countries. The ambassador believes that bilateral cooperation benefits both countries and has a bright future ahead. “As soon as the diplomatic relations were established, our heads of state have been maintaining good contacts and meeting regularly,” the diplomat said.

When asked by a BelTA reporter about any plans for highest-level meetings this year, the ambassador said that the two leaders might meet on the sidelines of international events, like summits of the SCO and the CIS.

Speaking about economic cooperation, he mentioned the joint assembly of Belarusian machinery in Tajikistan. This machinery is also supplied to other countries of the region. The diplomat emphasized Tajikistan's interest in Belarus' best practices in the agricultural sector.

Taking part in the event in the House of Friendship were school and university students who had an opportunity to ask the ambassador questions.
