MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus has been supporting Syria from the outset of the military conflict, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Syria to Belarus Bassam Abdel Majeed told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus has been supporting Syria from the very start of the hostilities. We feel this support in all walks of life, in particular on the political and diplomatic levels, within international organizations,” the diplomat said.
He noted that Syria receives aid from Belarus. For example, a Belarusian airplane has recently landed in Syria bringing humanitarian aid, foodstuffs, medicines and other types of aid that can relieve the plight of Syrian people. “We greatly appreciate the support on the part of Belarusians and this opportune act,” the Ambassador said.
Bassam Abdel Majeed added that at the start of April Minsk hosted sessions of the bilateral commission for cooperation in science and trade. The negotiations resulted in a set of agreements aimed at expanding the trade and strengthening all-round cooperation between the two states.
“Naturally Syria will rely on friendly nations during the post-war reconstruction. Belarus is among them. Syria expects Belarus to take the most active part in the reconstruction of the country,” the diplomat noted.
