Sergeyenko: Belarus is experiencing an active phase of information war

BARANOVICHI, 18 March (BelTA) – Belarus is going through an active phase of the information war, Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with the staff of the 120th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade in Baranovichi on 18 March, BelTA has learned.

At a meeting with military personnel, Igor Sergeyenko talked about social and economic development of the country and the city, the adoption of the updated Constitution, as well as the situation in Ukraine. “Every year brings us new challenges and threats, carries certain risks for rural workers, industry, people in uniform,” he said.

“We see an extensive coverage of events in the territory of Ukraine. All our state-run media outlets objectively report on what is happening. However, it should be noted that it is difficult for some people to wrap their head around these intricacies given a great number of fake news and disinformation pouring in from various channels. We are in the active phase of the information war, and we were drawn into it against our will. Various events are presented and interpreted differently. The same fact can be presented from a completely different angle,” the head of the Belarus President Administration emphasized.

Igor Sergeyenko refuted one of the recent fake reports. According to him, last week the Ukrainian media wrote that a Russian aircraft allegedly flying from Belarusian territory dropped several shells on the territory of Ukraine, and on the way back it dropped several shells on the territory of Belarus. “This information appeared in the Ukrainian media. We figured it out within a few hours and released statements refuting it,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
