MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia are strengthening cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and are in favor of the earliest possible accession of Belarus to the organization, reads the statement of the ministers of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia on the common foreign policy priorities of Russia and Belarus, signed by Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov following the talks in Moscow on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Russia are strengthening cooperation on the platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which has become an important factor in the emerging multi-polar world order and makes a significant contribution to security and stability in the region. We support the early accession of Belarus to the SCO,” the document says.

“Minsk and Moscow attach particular importance to the development and strengthening of comprehensive cooperation with the countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America and their regional associations. We will coordinate political cooperation in these areas, including in the maintenance of peace and security, as well as foreign economic cooperation with the states of these regions,” the foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia stated.
