MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - The modern diplomacy of Belarus and Russia is a strategic partnership and allied relationship, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh told BelTA.
“Belarus and Russia are carrying out coordinated and successful diplomatic work aimed at defending the interests of our countries in the international arena. Belarusian-Russian relations have always had a strategic nature. There are no closer states and no more closely cooperating countries in the world,” he said.
According to the MP, the countries have been building the Union State together for decades. In recent years this process has intensified significantly. “We are forming a single social and economic system. We are developing a high-level union, which is to become a prototype of a new macro-region in the 21st century. We have already achieved great results along this path,” Andrei Savinykh added.
He stressed that the union of Belarus and Russia is based on the principles of unity of the sovereign states. “It means that we preserve mutual respect and respect for the interests of both parties. That is why I think we can talk about a new level of the interstate relations, which will largely determine the integration balance in the entire great Eurasia,” the chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs said.
Today, on 10 February, Russia is marking Diplomats Day, while Belarusian diplomats celebrated their professional holiday on 22 January. Belarusian diplomatic traditions were considered among the best in the times of the USSR. Belarus maintains diplomatic relations with 183 countries and is represented by 71 foreign missions: 57 embassies, two permanent missions, 11 consulates general and one consulate. Taking into account ambassadors with concurrent accreditation, Belarus is represented in 105 countries.
