Russian foreign minister to visit Belarus on 19 January

MOSCOW, 12 January (BelTA) – Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov will be in Belarus on a visit on 19 January, BelTA learned from Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Joint collegiums of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been held every year since 2000. They represent an effective mechanism for synchronizing efforts of Belarus and Russia in the international arena, Maria Zakharova said. Participants of the meeting are expected to discuss progress in realization of the 2022-2023 program on concerted actions in the area of foreign policy of the member states of the Union State Foundation Treaty. Cooperation in the area of foreign policy planning, coordination of actions with regard to the European Union, NATO, and the Council of Europe will also be discussed. Joint work within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), interaction on multilateral platforms in the sphere of arms control, the counteraction of the West's policy designed to politicize international economic and human rights organizations will also be discussed.

According to Maria Zakharova, participants of the meeting are expected to sign a resolution of the session, a plan on ministerial consultations in 2023, and an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on biological safety matters.
