Romania's Maramures seeks twinning relations with Belarusian cities

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Romania Andrei Grinkevich paid a visit to Maramures County in the north-west of Romania, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Romania.

The ambassador held meetings and negotiations with the authorities and representatives of the city administration and presented the economic, investment, tourism, logistics, educational and cultural potential of Belarus. The parties discussed the whole range of bilateral interaction with a focus on the development of interregional, trade and economic cooperation, establishment of twinning relations, cooperation in education, culture and tourism, participation of Belarusian companies in the ongoing municipal tenders for infrastructure development, including road construction, utility works and procurement of machinery and equipment, improvement of transport services.

The diplomat also met with representatives of business, tourism, education and culture of Maramures County to discuss further cooperation with Belarus.

Maramures used to be one of the most developed mining regions. Today it has many other developed sectors, including agriculture and forestry, production of electrical equipment and car components, metalworking and information technologies. The region's capital, Baia Mare, is home to one of Eastern Europe's largest furniture factories, Italsofa.
