
MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov took part in the second meeting of the chairs of the parliamentary committees (commissions) of the CSTO member states whose scope of reference covers international relations, defense and security, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarus' parliament.
The participants of the event discussed coordination of actions of the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO states in international parliamentary organizations; interaction of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly with international organizations; the role of parliamentarians in strengthening peace, stability, international and regional security; priorities and current tasks of Belarus' presidency in the CSTO; draft amendments to the regulations on the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly's participation in international observation of elections and referendums; proposals by the parliaments of the CSTO states to amend the general requirements for parliamentary monitoring of the military and political situation in the regions of the organization's collective security.
Sergei Rachkov spoke about interaction of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly with international organizations. The senator noted that “in the context of a tough geopolitical confrontation, the most important task for the CSTO are to increase its prestige, develop joint approaches to the international agenda on a regional and international scale”. These issues are included in the priorities of Belarus' chairmanship in the CSTO in 2023.
