Putin: Russia remembers about its responsibility for security in neighboring countries

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Russia is determined to keep working to strengthen peace and stability on the continent, keeping in mind that it is responsible for security and prosperity of neighboring countries, President Vladimir Putin said in a video message to the participants and guests of the IX Moscow Conference on International Security, TASS reports.

“Russia never forgets about responsibility for security and prosperity of the neighboring countries, with which we have strong historical, cultural and human bonds,” Vladimir Putin said.

He went on saying that Russia's authorities “plan to promote de-escalation of regional conflicts, strengthening of peace and stability on the continent,” Vladimir Putin noted. He called the settlement of regional conflicts crucial for ensuring global security. He added that Russia is actively involved in conflict settlement.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin noted that geopolitical processes in the world are getting increasingly turbulent and the erosion of international law continues. “Unfortunately, the turbulence of geopolitical processes is still increasing despite some positive signals. The erosion of international law continues. We see relentless attempts to use force to push through one's interests and strengthen one's own security at the expense of the security of others,” the Russian leader said.

Russia cannot but be concerned by NATO's ongoing military buildup near its borders, but Moscow hopes that the alliance will take its de-escalation initiatives on board, Vladimir Putin said.

According to him, any new ‘rules of the game' in the international arena should be discussed under the auspices of the UN, so that there is no chaos and unpredictability. “Since its inception, it is the UN that has been and remains the cornerstone of the system of international relations. The main task of this reputable and universally acknowledged organization is to prevent a global conflict, a new world war,” the Russian head of state said.
