MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Russia is benefiting from the sanctions imposed against it as it is acquiring additional competencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
The Russian head of state said that he had recently visited the two largest construction sites in the energy sector (related to gas and gas chemistry). "I want to say something about the restrictions that are being imposed on us. European companies refused to supply equipment and competencies (apparently, in the hope that we are lacking them). We have restored all competencies. Absolutely everything," he stated. "Huge, world-class enterprises will be commissioned in the very near future."
The president stressed that Russia's former European partners say that they were forced to curtail cooperation, although they are suffering losses on a huge scale. "Some large high-tech companies had to reduce staff by 50%, or even by 70%. Meanwhile, we are on a restoration track. We are acquiring additional engineering competencies. This is very good," Vladimir Putin noted. “Our gain in this sense is obvious." According to him, Russia still has something to work on, especially in the field of high technology, and in many respects this was prompted by the sanctions.
