Presidential election declared valid in Mogilev Oblast

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus, as of 10:00 the presidential election was declared valid in Mogilev Oblast, as the turnout there made up 53.87%, BelTA has learned.

Earlier the election was declared valid in Gomel Oblast where more than half of eligible voters cast their ballots before the main voting day. By 10:00, the turnout in Gomel Oblast reached 57.82%.

CEC Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina informed that polling stations opened and are operating normally: no conflicts or complaints have been reported.

The election is declared valid if the turnout is at least 50%. A total of 5,767 polling stations were set up in Belarus, including 231 in sanatoriums, health resorts, hospitals and other inpatient healthcare facilities, 13 in military units and 44 outside Belarus.

A total of 248 international observers and nearly 50,0000 domestic observers are monitoring the election campaign.
