Preparations for CIS summit discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – A meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives was held at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 17 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The first item on the agenda was the preparations for the upcoming meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government due in Minsk on 28 May. The CIS Executive Committee was thanked for the high degree of readiness of the documents to be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of Government.

Then the permanent plenipotentiary representatives heard a report on the performance of the CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology. The participants of the meeting noted that since its founding the interstate council has proved its worth and effectiveness. The Council is the coordinator and organizer of CIS joint work in the field of hydrometeorology.

The CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology will be working to strengthen cooperation between national hydrometeorology services of the CIS member states, harmonize relevant regulations, improve the methods of medium- and long-range weather forecasting, including forecasting hydrometeorological hazards, Igor Shumakov, the head of the Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, said as he delivered his report via a video link.

The CIS permanent plenipotentiary representatives also approved the appointment of Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Ilhom Nematov as the head of the CIS observation mission at the elections to the National Assembly of Armenia, and the appointment of Secretary General of the CIS IPA Council Dmitry Kobitsky as the head of the CIS observation mission at the Moldovan parliamentary elections.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives will be held in Brest on 21 June.
