Positive beginning of Lithuanian foreign minister's visit to Belarus noted

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – The working visit of Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius to Belarus proceeds in a positive atmosphere. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement as he welcomed his Lithuanian counterpart in the agrotown of Rymdyuny, Ostrovets District, Grodno Oblast on 3 February, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei noted: “The visit began with a positive exchange of opinions, with the understanding that even if there are problems (not even problems but minor issues) in our relations, we should start negotiations and discuss them.”

Asked whether the sides are going to discuss ways to import oil to Belarus using Lithuania's logistics capabilities, Vladimir Makei noted: “We are going to discuss all the matters relating to our bilateral and multilateral relations.”

In his words, it became obvious that both sides were intent on pursuing a constructive approach from the first minutes of the conversation with the Lithuanian counterpart. “I am convinced that the visit will continue today and tomorrow in the same spirit and that all our agreements will be absolutely positive,” Vladimir Makei said.

BelTA reported earlier that a meeting of the Belarusian and Lithuanian ministers of foreign affairs is scheduled to take place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Minsk on 4 February. It will be followed by a joint statement for mass media by Vladimir Makei and Linas Linkevicius.
