Polling stations close in Belarus as part of parliamentary elections

The polling stations closed their doors at 20:00. The election commissions are busy counting the votes.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), as of 18:00 the elections were recognized valid in 109 constituencies out of 110 ones. The voter turnout amounted to 70.72%.

As many as 5,831 polling stations operated as part of these elections, including 46 stations abroad.

Elections to the House of Representatives were held in single-mandate constituencies. The results are determined by a majority-vote electoral system. Elections are considered valid if more than half of the registered voters cast their ballots within a constituency. The candidate who gets the biggest number of votes wins the elections.

As many as 6,880,605 citizens of Belarus could cast their votes during these elections.
