MOSCOW, 10 January (BelTA) – Poland's plan to deploy a new division near Belarus' border represents an aggressive step against the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told BelTA.

Aleksandr Volfovich said: “How can one comment on it? As an aggressive policy and unneighborly attitude on the part of Poland towards not only Belarus but the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization as a whole. Regretfully, Poland and the Baltic states are intent on militarization, on stepping up military activities, on deploying new army units, on commissioning new samples of military hardware of offensive nature. How can one evaluate it? Only as a bid for some aggression. Reconnaissance flights and the number of ongoing war games cannot contribute to peace and security either.”

The official stressed that without a doubt Belarus keeps an eye on the situation evolving along its borders. “The recent decision of the presidents of Belarus and Russia to deploy the regional military force in Belarus' territory indicates that we are taking steps primarily for the sake of strategic deterrence, for the sake of cooling off the heads of some Western politicians,” Aleksandr Volfovich stressed.

“The regional military force, which has been deployed in Belarus' territory, is purely defensive and is supposed to protect borders of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and respectively the western border of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” Aleksandr Volfovich pointed out.
