Perkins: UK welcomes progress in relations between Belarus, United States

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – The United Kingdom welcomes the progress in relations between Belarus and the United States, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Jacqueline Perkins told journalists, BelTA has learned.

Journalists asked the opinion of the ambassador about the warming relations between Belarus and the United States of America. The head of the diplomatic mission stressed: The United States is our friend, and Belarus is our friend. We are very happy when our friends are on good terms with each other.

She noted that Belarus and the UK have been cooperating in various avenues, especially in trade, economy, and education. There are new projects and sectors that the countries view as promising. Thus, during the visit of Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas to London, an agreement was signed to set up joint production of electric buses in the UK. This is important given that electric buses are environmentally friendly vehicles, the diplomat noted.

The ambassador noted that the UK is the world's leader in terms of action against the climate change. We were the first major economy to pass a law to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. In partnership with Italy, we are hosting the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26) this year, the ambassador said.
