Pashinyan: Issues in EAEU can be resolved if there is a political will

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Problems in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can be resolved if there is a political will in its member states, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia said as he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 17 July, BelTA has learned.

At the start of the meeting, the Armenian prime minister greeted warmly the Belarusian head of state. “I am happy to meet with you. We have not seen each other for a long time due to the coronavirus. I hope we will be back on track from now and will continue meeting regularly,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

According to the prime minister, the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which took place in Minsk on 17 July, was effective. The parties agreed on the major approaches and made progress in removing barriers. In his words, eight out of ten barriers in the EAEU have been removed. The parties to the meeting also discussed the participation of EAEU companies in public tenders. “We have reached a good decision. I am confident that the issue will be resolved as a result of today's meeting,” the prime minister said.

He expressed confidence that in the future the EAEU countries will continue the process of aligning and removing barriers at different levels. “I think that if there is a political will, all the issues will be resolved. We just have to work on this longer," he said.
