MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Ukraine had every opportunity to create nuclear weapons, writer, military expert, Candidate of Sciences [Politics] Vladimir Yeranosyan told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.
“In recent years, I kept saying in plain text that Ukraine was preparing to create nuclear weapons. I believe that there was very little time left for implosion-type or gun-type fission ammunition to be created. Ukraine had every opportunity to create these weapons and their carriers,” Vladimir Yeranosyan is convinced.
In his opinion, Ukraine could resort to smuggling to create a dirty atomic bomb (a nuclear weapon based on spent nuclear fuel) or ammunition. “And then it would tell the whole world that it already had nuclear weapons,” the military expert said.
He recalled that during a recent speech at the Munich Security Conference, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country could reconsider the decision to give up nuclear weapons. “This nuclear blackmail has already become rather specific, because if a country's president make such statements, he certainly means it,” the political scientist emphasized.
