Opinion: If one color revolution is allowed to happen in a country, another one will follow

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – If one color revolution is allowed to happen in a country, another one will follow. Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich made the relevant statement as he commented on the situation in Kyrgyzstan after the parliamentary elections, BelTA has learned.

The MP said: “If one color revolution is allowed to happen in a country, another one will follow. Let me explain why. A revolution has happened. A coup. If some people are allowed to stage a revolution, why can't other people do the same? It means it will happen again in a year or two. We see it in ex-USSR countries. Let's talk about Ukraine for example. How many color revolutions and coups have happened there already? The same is true for Kyrgyzstan. I am not going to talk about what everyone knows already. A clan system, families fighting other families, fight between the north and the south – all of it does exist. But the most important thing is that they have allowed it to happen once.”

The MP stressed that the fate of a country should not be decided in the streets. “There is also the foreign policy aspect to consider. Think about Belarus – an attempt of foreign forces to stage a color revolution and interfere. Then there is Nagorno-Karabakh and Kyrgyzstan. We see perfectly well how some forces are trying to create a zone of instability around Russia. It is a result of geopolitical confrontation. It has reached new heights now. There will be an election in the USA. Its outcome is yet unclear. The world is being divided again. A fight for influence zones is in progress. And Belarus is in the thick of it because we are a European country,” Oleg Gaidukevich he noted. “What should our agenda be? What should we do? First, we should focus on consolidation inside the country, political reforms, the amendment of the Constitution. Second, we must prevent foreign interference. Third, we should work together with Russia to bolster Union State relations because we understand what they mean and what is at stake. And most importantly, the stronger the Union State relations are, the stronger our sovereignty is.”
