MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The global community has a selective approach towards achieving the SDGs, as evidenced by the repressions against Belarus and other countries, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Valery Belsky said at a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development, BelTA has learned.

Valery Belsky emphasized that the achievement of the SDGs requires global efforts from the world community.

“The global community has somewhat moved away from this understanding. Belarus knows this because it has come under the unprecedented and unmotivated pressure, including with regard to the Sustainable Development Goals,” Valery Belsky said.

He recalled that European states closed their airspace to Belarusian aircraft and imposed a number of border restrictions. All this affects human contacts, Valery Belsky noted. The sanctions imposed against Belarus had a negative impact on the country's economy, because it was denied access to Western markets.

“Let's be objective. While we are talking about the ‘repressions', we mean that Belarus is facing these repressions. I'm not exaggerating. It is true,” Valery Belsky noted. “What did we do to deserve such a pressure.”

Yet Belarus has everything necessary: a political will, determination and willingness of society, for constructive interaction on any issues. But only if there is no pressure. "With mutual desire in place, we will find a way to solve any problem," the MP believes.
