Opinion: Cooperation and mutual respect can help countries handle any challenges

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – Countries can respond to any challenges if they cooperate and respect each other's interests, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus' National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko said as he spoke at the opening of the spring session on 2 April, BelTA has learned.

“The principle of national egoism does not apply in the context of globalization. We can overcome the pandemic, the global crisis, and other challenges only if all countries cooperate with each other and respect each other's interests,” Vladimir Andreichenko said. “Witnessing the processes that are happening on the planet, we understand that the world is entering a brand new epoch. The pandemic has shown what the modern international security system is worth. The world is at a loss, governments are acting on their own, and the international community has demonstrated its inability to join efforts,” he added.

According to the speaker, it is important to analyze carefully how all these tendencies might influence the future world order and take this into account in drawing up the strategy of Belarus' social and economic development for the next five-year period. “The situation was not easy before. But at present the economic aspect of international relations has become complicated. Free movement of people, goods, and capital has virtually stopped. Of course, Belarus' primary concern is how integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union and the Union State of Belarus and Russia will develop in these conditions,” he said.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that it is important to remember lessons of history. “The anniversary of the Great Victory that the world will celebrate this year is a wonderful example. Because 75 years ago world powers managed to overcome mutual mistrust and unite to protect the world from fascism. This enabled them not only to cope with the aftermath of World War II rather quickly but also to achieve unbelievable economic growth. This perfectly proves the advantages of relations based on the principles of good neighborliness, equality, mutual trust, and development of economic cooperation. The key global players should listen not only to each other but also to states that do not have global ambitions but are ready and are able to be active participants of the process to build a fairer, safer, and more prosperous world,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted.
