Opinion: Belarusian opposition is stuck in the past

MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian opposition lives in the past and is out of touch with the political reality, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

“Many Belarusian politicians are stuck in the past and do not live in the current political moment. Some of them still live in 1996, the year when the referendum was held, in that political reality,” Oleg Gaidukevich said.

He stressed that the state will not allow a coup, violent overthrow of the government and anti-constitutional actions.

“Belarus is experiencing a very strong international pressure and sanctions. Now we should stand together, where is the common stance?” the MP addressed Belarusian Popular Front Party Chairman Grigory Kostusyov. “The sanctions are illegal, they were adopted in violation of all international norms, the UN Charter. All sanctions against Belarus are illegal. It is just geopolitics: some countries can do anything, others – nothing,” he added.
