Opinion: Belarus, Poland hold shared responsibility for regional security

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland hold a shared responsibility for security in the region, Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko said as he took part in the event marking the 229th anniversary of the Constitution of Poland that was streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Polish Embassy in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“Our countries are located in the center of Europe. Poland is not only an important and influential member of the European Union, but also our neighbor and one of Belarus' biggest trading partners. We also holda a shared responsibility for security and stability in the region, safety and prosperity of our citizens,” Oleg Kravchenko said.

According to him, the Polish Constitution of 1791 was innovative and unique for Europe. “It belongs to the European and global heritage. The way to sovereignty and independence was difficult for Poland and Belarus alike,” he noted.

Oleg Kravchenko congratulated Poland on the occasion. He also thanked Poland for humanitarian aid it sent to Belarus to help fight the coronavirus.

For his part, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Belarus Artur Michalski stressed the significance of Constitution Day for the Polish nation. He also pointed out the importance of the Belarusian-Polish cooperation.
