Opinion: A politician calling for sanctions or strikes is not opposition but an enemy of the people

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - A politician calling for sanctions or strikes is not the opposition but an enemy of the people, the head of the ONT TV channel Marat Markov said as he took part in the Club of Editors program on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Unfortunately, there has been no real opposition in Belarus since the days of politician Zenon Poznyak, because the main trait of the opposition is patriotism. It has an alternative opinion but works for the interests of the state. Naturally, a politician calling for sanctions or strikes is not the opposition. This politician is an enemy of the people, let's call things by their names,” Marat Markov noted.

Marat Markov cited the recent appearance of the former coordinator of the opposition headquarters, political scientist Yuri Voskresensky on the ONT TV channel. He said that as soon as he got engaged in the work on the amendments to the Constitution, they immediately started bullying him, calling him a traitor.

“As soon as some opposition activists show a grain of common sense and start engaging in a constructive conversation, they are immediately called ‘traitors'. In recent months some people who worked for the state changed loyalties and became ‘heroes' for the opponents of the government. However, as soon as anyone from their ranks begins to reason sensibly, he is immediately called a traitor,” Marat Markov noted.
