Nomination to district election commissions to close in Belarus on 30 August

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – The documents to nominate representatives for the District Election Commissions (DECs) set up for the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation may be submitted by 30 August, head of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview to the First National Channel of Belarusian Radio, BelTA has learned.

“The documents to nominate representatives for the District Election Commissions may be filed till 30 August inclusively. Political parties and public associations, labor collectives nominate candidates to the District Election Commissions. Since there are 110 electoral districts in the country, hence there are 110 District Election Commissions. In addition to them there are territorial election commissions in each region and the city of Minsk,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.

According to her, many public associations and political parties have already scheduled meetings of their governing bodies to nominate their representatives.

“I know that the governing body of the Belaya Rus association will convene this Saturday. The Belarusian Union of Women will gather for a meeting next week. I think many political parties will do the same,” the head of the Central Election Commission said.

Lidia Yermoshina underscored that the District Election Commissions for the elections to the House of Representatives shall be set up by 2 September inclusively. Then candidates for seats in the Parliament will start to file documents (on the registration of the initiative groups to collect signatures).
