New Security Council chief announces plans to reform Belarus' security system

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – The newly appointed State Secretary of the Security Council Andrei Ravkov is determined to improve the national security system. He made this statement as he answered reporters' questions, BelTA has learned.

According to Andrei Ravkov, Belarus' national security system is up to the task. “There is an adequate legal framework that helps run this system smoothly. The main task set by the head of state is to study everything inside and out and streamline the national security system,” Andrei Ravkov said.

The president also emphasized the need to maintain an effective communication between all the security and law enforcement agencies. In this regard, Andrei Ravkov noted that during his work as the defense minister he established good ties with representatives of many government agencies. “I have not come from another country. I am a Belarusian, I have been living in this country for a long time and know personally heads of government agencies, therefore I believe that the common ground we have found will help address some matters [in the work of the Security Council],” he said.
