New Russian government eager to work hard with Belarusian colleagues

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The new government of the Russian Federation is intent on working hard with Belarusian colleagues. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin made the statement after meeting with Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Mishustin said: “The new government of the Russian Federation is intent on doing most vigorous work with our colleagues.”

The Treaty on Establishing the Union State of Belarus and Russia turned 20 last year. The Russian head of government believes that the sides have to fully explore the treaty's potential and harmonize the national legislations as much as possible. According to Mikhail Mishustin, it will allow creating a new driver of economic growth and facilitating business operation terms.

In turn, Sergei Rumas noted that as the prime minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin had dived into the work of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. Apart from that, a Russian deputy prime minister will be responsible for integration affairs. Sergei Rumas said he hopes that Russia will play an active role in the year of Belarus' presidency over Eurasian Economic Union bodies. Although Russia's leadership has set a lot of new tasks to achieve, including amendments to the Constitution, and despite the heavy workload on the domestic agenda, Sergei Rumas also expects that the Russian Federation government will pay attention to the bilateral agenda and Belarus-Russia interaction will remain a priority.

During today's meeting Sergei Rumas suggested discussing matters of Belarusian-Russian relations, which overlap with Eurasian matters, as well as matters of labelling and Belarus-Russia interaction in the course of Belarus' accession to the World Trade Organization.
