New ambassador intent on advancing Belarus' cooperation with South Korea

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The Republic of Korea is an important partner for Belarus, BelTA learned from Andrei Chernetsky, who was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Korea on 20 September.

The diplomat said: “The Republic of Korea is our partner, a country that is rather close to us. It is important to promote all-round cooperation with the country, primarily trade and economic cooperation.”

Andrei Chernetsky stressed that potash fertilizers now dominate Belarus' export to South Korea. Apart from that, Belarus' exports also include semiconductor materials, food, optic fibers, hydrocarbon products, and other goods. Import of technologies and components from South Korea is also important for Belarus.

According to the diplomat, the development of Belarus-South Korea cooperation is quite promising, including in the sphere of exchange of technologies.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea were established on 10 February 1992. The Belarusian embassy in Seoul was opened in December 1997. The South Korean embassy in Belarus started working in December 2007.
