NATO, Belarus engaged in security dialogue

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – NATO and Belarus are conducting dialogue to exchange visions on security issues, representative of the NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Division Tanya Hartman said at the international workshop “International security and NATO in 2018” in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The alliance cooperates with many partner countries and international organizations. As for contacts with Belarus, Tanya Hartman stated: “There are a number of ideas we are discussing with Belarus. There are sectors where we can develop closer cooperation.”

According to the NATO representative, cooperation is developed with Belarus in the fight against natural calamities.

We have paid great attention to cybersecurity in recent years, she said. This is why dialogue and mutual understanding are becoming increasingly important. “We should discuss our concerns together with other partners,” the NATO spokeswoman.

This is not the first time Tanya Hartman has come to Minsk to attend this international workshop in Minsk.

The event has been organized by the Center for Foreign Policy and Security Studies, NATO's Public Diplomacy Division, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the NATO contact point embassy in Belarus.

Attending the event are representatives of NATO, chairman of the board of the Center for Foreign Policy and Security Studies Andrei Rusakovich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia to Belarus Merike Kokajev (Estonian diplomatic mission is the NATO contact point embassy in Belarus), prominent Belarusian and foreign experts.
