Moldova suggests drawing up plan to improve CIS publicity

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Moldovan President Igor Dodon has proposed to work out a plan to improve the publicity of the CIS as he spoke at the online CIS summit on 18 December, BelTA has learned.

The world faced the pandemic that has had a negative impact on various activities, Igor Dodon noted. He spoke about the situation in his country. “Unfortunately, the situation in Moldova, like in the majority of countries, is not getting better. In addition, the county has serious economic and social problems caused by a severe drought. In the course of nine months, the country's agricultural output shrank by 25%,” the Moldovan president said.

In view of the situation, the Moldovan government introduced a set of measures to support economic activity and protect socially vulnerable groups of people, which helped avoid a social and economic disaster, Igor Dodon explained.

“The year 2020 has become one of the most challenging years in the past decades. Due to the pandemic, the CIS countries are suffering human, economic, and financial losses,” the Moldovan president said.

At the same time he pointed out that in the course of its existence the CIS has proven itself viable. Speaking about the future development of the CIS, Igor Dodon expressed an opinion that the CIS needs more exposure. “I believe that people of our countries are not informed properly about the CIS activities and its importance,” he noted.

“We need to make a better use of modern information and communication technologies that are especially popular among the younger generation. It would be useful to set up more discussion platforms, involve experts and mass media outlets. We should discuss and adopt a plan to improve the CIS exposure,” Igor Dodon believes.

The Moldovan president also spoke in favor of bolstering ties between the CIS and the EAEU.
