Mishustin's visit to Belarus viewed as evidence of true brotherly relations

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – The visit of the Russian governmental delegation to Belarus is the strongest evidence of true brotherly relations between the two countries, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting of the Belarusian and Russian governmental delegations on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

“We believe that your visit is the most convincing proof of true brotherly relations between our countries at this difficult time, when Belarus is under massive pressure from external forces that have tried and are still trying to overturn the state, to play out a color revolution, a scenario much familiar to our neighbors, and to drive a wedge between the two closest allies, which Belarus and Russia are,” the Belarusian prime minister said.

According to him, after failing in an attempt of political blitzkrieg, certain forces have turned to the attempts to undermine the country's economy. “We are already used to confronting external challenges, especially with the support of our ally - the Russian Federation, which is also our main trading partner accounting for 48% of Belarus' exports in January-July 2020,” said Roman Golovchenko.

The Belarusian prime minister stated that Russia is also the largest investor in the Belarusian economy. “In H1 2020 alone, Russian investment in Belarus amounted to almost $2 billion,” he cited the data.

“Today is a difficult time not only for Belarus but also for Russia because of the continuing negative effect of the coronavirus pandemic, the crisis in the global economy, and the pressure of sanctions. These problems require clear and understandable decisions at the level of our governments, which would become not only a guide to action for ministries and agencies, but also a clear signal for all economic agents,” the Belarusian head of government said.

Roman Golovchenko proposed to consider and make decisions on a wide range of bilateral issues. “We express hope that we will constructively discuss the whole range of existing issues, and I propose to consolidate the reached agreements at the next meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State, where we, I hope, will talk in detail the further development of this integration association,” the prime minister said.
