MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The Union State has a great future in the international multi-polar architecture, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin said at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State in Moscow on 27 March, BelTA has learned.
Mikhail Mishustin noted that the heads of government met in the run-up to an important holiday - the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia that will be held on 2 April. “A quarter of a century ago, on this day, the Union State Treaty was signed. It opened a new chapter in the common history and heralded the beginning of integration in the Union State. The decision to create this union has proved to be right,” he noted. “Despite uncertainty on global markets and the sanctions imposed by the collective West, our cooperation is doing well. After a significant growth of 35% in 2021, our trade grew by another 12% to reach a record high of $45 billion. Together we continue to take measures to mitigate the negative effects of the sanctions” he said.
Russia helped Belarus bolster its financial stability, provided energy preferences, offered alternative transit routes to friendly states using the Russian transport infrastructure. The two countries are also building up industrial cooperation.
Mikhail Mishustin added that in November 2021, the presidents of Belarus and Russia decided to deepen integration and approved 28 Union State programs. “We have laid the foundation for a coordinated macroeconomic, agricultural and industrial policy, we are forming a common transport market, developing competition rules and ensuring equal consumer rights. We are coordinating our efforts; two-thirds of our plans have been fulfilled to date. We are consistently working to create a favorable business climate and to eliminate barriers and restrictions on the free movement of goods, services, capital and labor,” he said.
According to Mikhail Mishustin, the Union State has a great future in the emerging international multi-polar architecture. “The deepening of integration will benefit the peoples of our countries. Today's event marked the start of preparations for the upcoming summit of the Supreme State Council of the Union State that will be attended by our presidents,” he added.
The Russian head of government noted that the best practices of Russia-Belarus cooperation could be useful for the other members of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
